How can I adjust crankshaft position to the top dead center?

Beitrag von User gelöscht! »

Dear All!

Please help me.
Some time ago intake rocker arm of my Leo ST 150 (2001) cracked into pieces. I think that the reason was weared chain.
Now I've bought a new rocker and I need to synchronize crankshaft and camshaft phases.

The question is where can I find the marks on the crankshaft and crankcase to adjust crankshaft position to the top dead center (highest position of the piston)?

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Reinhold Meissner has an great solution for this problem on his homepage:

You have to remove the M8 screw with allen head under the starter motor. Then you insert the special OT screw from Reinhold. Turn the crankshaft until the little bolt of the screw slips in the hole of the crankshaft. Then you have found the upper dead center.

Dear Chistian!

Thanks a lot!

I'm not to strong in German...

Do you have a better resolution drawing for this Magic-Bolt?
(I can't read most dimensions).

Thanks in advance.

Another possibility could be a small screwdriver. Put it into the hole of the M8 screw, and turn the crankshaft. If the screwdriver slides down a few millimeters, you are near the upper dead center.
Try hold the screwdriver right-angeld to the crankcase und try to locate the upper dead center exactly.
